According to UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Institute, Latinos are the largest racial and ethnic group in California at 39% of the population (UCLA, 2022). With more than 4.3 million children ages 0-17 living in the state, Hispanic/Latino children make up 48.6% of California’s youth population (KidsData, 2021). To better serve Hispanic/Latino parents, children, and adolescents, it’s important for both child- and family-serving professionals and the families you work with to have access to resources and materials in Spanish.
Child- and family-serving professionals are as diverse as the populations they serve.
The National Association of Social Workers reports that new social workers are more diverse in terms of race and ethnicity, with Hispanic/Latino making up 14% of the national workforce (NASW, 2020). This data aligns with an accessibility survey CalTrin conducted earlier this year to better understand the individual learning needs of California’s child- and family-serving professionals. Respondents indicated a strong desire for access to both Spanish-language training and resources.
In this post, we highlight resources and websites available in Spanish to help enhance learning, meet your team’s specific development needs, and support the Hispanic/Latino families you serve. Visit CalTrin’s Resources page to find additional links to organizations that provide high-quality, accessible content to extend learning and professional development in child abuse prevention and family-strengthening topics.
