Home Visiting as a Bridge: Supporting Resettled Families through Transition and Growth
This session from Chapin Hall explores effective social supports and engagement strategies for working with resettled refugee and immigrant families. Presenters will share findings from a recent project that centers the lived experiences of dual-language families in home visiting programs—communities that remain deeply underrepresented in early childhood, home visiting, and mental health research.
Using home visiting data from Illinois, the session highlights ways to promote child and family mental health among culturally diverse communities, with a focus on the Baby TALK Family Engagement Model. Presenters will also demonstrate how community–research partnerships can advance equity in program practices and research, allowing us to continue learning from and with resettled communities.
Early childhood practitioners, researchers, and advocates can apply the lessons shared to strengthen programming and expand service access for diverse immigrant families.
Panelists include:
- Aimee Hilado – Assistant Professor, Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice
