This training will introduce the concept of developmental screening using the evidence-based tool Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social-Emotional, 2nd edition (ASQ:SE-2). Participants will learn about the benefits of developmental screening, the features of the ASQ:SE-2, scoring and interpreting screening results, communicating with families, and follow-up and next steps.
Learners will be able to:
- Explain the benefits and purpose of social-emotional screening for children ages 0–5 by articulating its impact on early intervention and child development
- Identify and describe the key components and structure of the ASQ:SE-2, including its domains, scoring system, and administration process
- Accurately score and interpret screening results, using provided guidelines, to determine developmental progress and areas of concern
- Apply effective communication strategies to engage families in the screening process, including discussing results and addressing concerns with sensitivity and clarity
- Develop and share actionable follow-up plans based on screening outcomes, including referrals, resources, and ongoing monitoring strategies
En esta capacitación se presentará el concepto de evaluación del desarrollo utilizando el cuestionario basado en la evidencia, que se titula “Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social-Emotional, 2nd Edition (ASQ:SE-2)”. Los participantes aprenderán sobre los beneficios de la evaluación del desarrollo, las características del ASQ:SE-2, cómo obtener e interpretar sus resultados, cómo comunicarse con las familias, el seguimiento y los siguientes pasos necesarios.
Los alumnos aprenderán a:
- Explicar los beneficios y el propósito de la evaluación socioemocional de niños de 0 a 5 años, detallando su impacto en la intervención temprana y el desarrollo infantil
- Identificar y describir los componentes clave y la estructura del ASQ:SE-2, incluidos sus dominios, el sistema de puntuación y el proceso de administración
- Obtener una puntuación precisa e interpretar los resultados de la evaluación siguiendo las instrucciones proporcionadas para determinar el progreso del desarrollo y las áreas de preocupación
- Aplicar estrategias de comunicación eficaces para involucrar a las familias en el proceso de evaluación, lo que incluye hablar sobre los resultados y plantear las preocupaciones con sensibilidad y claridad

Who should attend: All staff of family resource center (FRCs), child abuse prevention councils (CAPCs), community-based organizations, and other child- and family-serving systems.

MEET THE SPEAKER
Zulema is the Pediatric Partnerships Program Officer for San Francisco Department of Early Childhood where she designs and implements activities that support pre-natal, post-natal, infant and toddler health and wellness, early identification and intervention, and pediatric quality improvement efforts.
Zulema has 15 years of experience focused on strengthening and enhancing services available to children and families. She has provided training, coaching, consultation, and technical assistance in a variety of community settings, including to Medi-Cal serving pediatric offices in Alameda County.
Zulema has been the Developmental Screening Manager for Help Me Grow SF-Support for Families, which is a system of support for pregnant women, caregivers with new babies and families with young children with developmental delays and disabilities. She has also worked for High-Risk Infancy Interagency Council as the Special Needs Project Program Manager, a demonstration site project that introduced family-centered developmental screening in early childhood settings.
