In this session, participants gain a foundational understanding of the key concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion and the benefits of DEI in the workplace. Participants will review the wheel of diversity to gain an understanding of internal, external, and organizational dimensions of diversity. Participants will review their own social identities and how identities can intersect. The content will dive into what inclusion looks like and how equity is different from equality.
Participants will be able to:
- Define diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Identify their own internal, external, and organizational identities
- Explain how identities can intersect
- Explain what inclusion is and looks like in the workplace
- List the benefits of prioritizing equity in the workplace
En esta sesión, los participantes adquirirán conocimientos básicos sobre los conceptos clave de diversidad, equidad e inclusión, así como sobre los beneficios que la DEI aporta al lugar de trabajo. Analizarán la “rueda de la diversidad” para comprender las dimensiones internas, externas y organizacionales de la diversidad. Who should attend: All staff of family resource center (FRCs), child abuse prevention councils (CAPCs), and other child- and family-serving organizations.

- This is a webinar-style training. This means that you will not be on camera and will not be able to see other learners. This training will not include breakout rooms. Opportunities to interact with the presenter(s) and other participants will be included.

MEET THE SPEAKER
Sarah Laurin
Sarah Laurin (she/her) is a Métis French Canadian from Georgian Bay who now lives in the Niagara Region. As a bilingual (French/English) and neurodivergent facilitator, Sarah is passionate about creating accessible, culturally responsive, and inclusive learning environments that honour the diverse lived experiences of participants. With a background in program facilitation, team leadership, community engagement, and pediatric rehabilitation, she has extensive experience supporting youth, post-secondary students, and adults in meaningful and psychologically safe spaces. As a mother and lifelong learner, Sarah is dedicated to deepening her understanding of her Métis culture and French Canadian heritage and enjoys sharing that knowledge while fostering connection through community, learning, and shared experiences.
