Spotlight on Neglect

June 4 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am PDT

Free

Ensuring the health and well-being of children is a goal shared by many in society.  However, trauma, adversity, and systematic and systemic oppression place unnecessary burdens on children to reach their full potential.  Too often, we rely on costly services and programs (e.g., child welfare) after problems occur for children and families. At Prevent Child Abuse America (PCA America), we invest in programs, policies, and strategies that provide families what they need, when they need it, in the communities where they live, delivered without stigma, BEFORE families find themselves in crisis.

Investments in primary prevention means families have resources, opportunities, and relationships that they need to thrive. Strategies and policies that enhance the well-being of and build upon the strengths of families prevent abuse and neglect from happening in the first place.  In this session you’ll learn about how poverty impacts neglect, including how neglect is defined federally and across states, learn effective solutions and policies across America to address child neglect and support families, and the policy levers that support families and reduce adverse childhood experiences.
