Safe & Affirming Care for Transgender & Gender-Diverse Children & Youth

This 3-hour interactive workshop is designed to meet providers and organizations where they are at and aims to create a shared understanding of the key elements of providing trauma-informed and affirming care to transgender and gender-diverse children and their families. Topics will include the basic understanding of gender identity development, the intersection of trauma and risk factors for transgender and gender-diverse children and youth, and the foundations of safe and affirming trauma-informed practice with transgender and gender-diverse children, youth, and families, including organizational, environmental, and clinical best practices and tools. 

We will be challenging the false perception that to provide gender-affirming care, a provider has to be an expert in transgender and gender-diverse health care needs. All providers have the tools to increase transgender and gender-diverse children and youth’s current social, emotional, and physical well-being while supporting them to imagine and experience a future in which they can thrive and live full, happy lives.
