Intro to Parent Cafés

This foundational Be Strong Families presentation will cover basic knowledge and skills to bring Parent Cafés to life and thereby to deliver a family support service with parents taking the lead and providers supporting them. Be Strong Families exposes participants to this highly structured, small-group conversation process that promotes peer-to-peer learning and deep self-reflection.

Participants will:

  • Understand the objectives of the Parent Café. 
  • Experience the anatomy of the Parent Café.
  • Understand how the practice of a Parent Café can further deepen parent engagement efforts.

Who should attend: All staff of family resource center (FRCs), child abuse prevention councils (CAPCs), and other family-serving organizations.

Sarita Sashington

Senior Strategic Manager & Senior Trainer, Be Strong Families

Sarita Sashington has grown with Be Strong Families since 2012 in a variety of capacities. She came to the organization as an expert in parent engagement and has evolved into a master trainer of trainers, a curriculum development specialist, a certified Laugh Yoga instructor, and an engaging  presenter.

Sarita has trained over 1000 people on the BSF Parent Café model, served as a keynote speaker for various family facing organizations, including American Academy of Pediatrics, secured training contracts across the country and built a robust Café Community of Practice.

Sarita believes in nurturing the spirit of family, creating safe spaces for transformational conversations, and the power of cultural humility. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Columbia Southern University. Sarita is a devout Christian married to Gregory Sashington Sr. and mother of three young adults, (Quanika, Gregory Jr., and Keziah) and Misha (grandmother) to three.
