SUMMARY:Fatherhood: People\, Places\, & Purpose
DESCRIPTION:This presentation will explore the stigmas associated with masculinity and the challenges men face in accepting help and embracing vulnerability\, particularly with strangers. In developing the content\, I plan to emphasize that fathers are especially interested in hearing about tangible results from services. Establishing trust and maintaining transparency are paramount when contacting fathers\, as these are crucial factors in building rapport and encouraging engagement. It is also important to acknowledge that if trust is broken\, it can be incredibly difficult\, and sometimes irreparable\, to mend. These points will be central to the strategies discussed in the presentation. We will also delve into the cultural considerations that can deter individuals\, particularly fathers\, from seeking assistance from agencies\, fearing that such involvement could lead to worse outcomes\, especially in family court. A key focus will be to challenge the misconception that fathers cannot achieve favorable outcomes in family court and to highlight strategies for co-parents to collaborate effectively and avoid judicial intervention\, even after aromantic relationship has ended. \nLearn More & Register

SUMMARY:Navigating Postpartum Depression
DESCRIPTION:Many new parents experience intense emotional changes after childbirth—from brief “baby blues” to more persistent and debilitating postpartum depression (PPD). Knowing how to distinguish typical adjustment from a clinical condition is critical for early support and effective intervention. \nIn this session from the McLean Hospital’s Deconstructing Stigma project\, Dr. Jennifer L. Payne breaks down how postpartum depression differs from common mood changes\, explores biological and environmental contributors\, and discusses tools clinicians\, loved ones\, and impacted families can use to identify\, support\, and treat PPD. \nREGISTER HERE \nWhy This Training Matters\nPostpartum depression affects a substantial number of new parents\, yet it is often misunderstood\, misdiagnosed\, or overlooked entirely. The emotional challenges in the weeks and months after childbirth overlap with normal adjustment\, making early signs easy to miss and delaying help-seeking. Understanding these distinctions can reduce stigma and open pathways to effective care. \nThis session provides clarity on what postpartum depression is\, how it develops\, when it becomes concerning\, and why biological\, hormonal\, and psychosocial factors matter in recognition and treatment. Participants will learn how to respond with both sensitivity and clinical awareness\, fostering better outcomes for individuals\, families\, and communities.

SUMMARY:Connection Is Protection: Keeping Kids Connected to Culture and Tribe Regardless of ICWA Status
DESCRIPTION:***Training offered by UC Davis Human Services | Resource Center for Family-Focused Practice \nREGISTER HERE \nConnection to culture and Tribal community should not depend on whether ICWA applies.  \nYouth in out-of-home care experience separation and disconnection every day — from family\, community\, culture\, and the routines that create stability and familiarity. Over time\, this disruption can also destabilize a young person’s sense of identity and belonging. For American Indian and Alaska Native children and families\, this harm is compounded by historical injustices\, including deliberate efforts to dismantle Tribal communities and child removal practices that targeted Native children.  \nCultural connection is often approached as secondary or optional in practice. Yet\, it is a protective factor – regardless if ICWA applies. When children and youth have a strong cultural identity and meaningful relationships with their Tribe and community\, they can experience a greater sense of belonging that can buffer the harms of system involvement and build resilience.   \nIn this ECHO session\, we will focus on practical\, everyday strategies professionals can use to help children\, youth\, and families develop or strengthen meaningful connections to their culture and Tribe(s) – whether ICWA applies or not. We will also examine how authentic Tribal engagement impacts outcomes\, including research showing that when Tribes are actively involved\, children spend 100 less days in out of home care.   \nParticipants will leave with actionable ideas they can integrate immediately into their work.  \nWho Should Attend:  \nThis series is designed for social workers\, juvenile probation officers and other child and family serving professionals and will provide digestible\, practical support focused on ICWA practice\, Tribal sovereignty and respectful collaboration and partnership with Tribes.
