SUMMARY:Practical Science: New Research from Child Maltreatment
DESCRIPTION:Webinar hosted by Association of Professionals Solving the Abuse of Children\, in partnership with The New York Foundling. \nChildren experiencing maltreatment in the first 3 years of life are at risk for several developmental challenges throughout the lifespan. Researchers and practitioners have emphasized understanding how institutional supports implemented through state governments may support infants and toddlers’ development\, but less attention has been paid to the potential effects of state policies on maltreatment specifically. We tested whether state-level policies providing economic and family planning support implemented between 2005-2019 were associated with rates of reported and substantiated abuse and neglect among children under three. Two-way fixed effects models indicate that implementing a state Child Tax Credit\, expanding contraception access\, raising minimum wages\, and expanding eligibility for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs were associated with decreased maltreatment according to various indicators among Black\, White\, and Hispanic children. Implications for future research and policy are discussed. \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:System of Care Local Integration Convenings
DESCRIPTION:These convenings help in establishing a shared framework for advancing system of care (SOC) and deepening the practical understanding regarding cross-system obligations\, limitations and interdependencies\, and how to overcome barriers to prioritize the needs of the youth and family. \nThe focus of the July 28 convening is the Integrated Core Practice Model (ICPM) and will include presentations from the Child and Family Policy Institute of California (CFPIC) and local SOC representatives.   \nREGISTER HERE \nThe ICPM is California’s Child and Youth System of Care core practice model guide\, which supports each local SOC partnership and serves as a framework for effective\, trauma-informed service delivery. Participants will hear county examples of the positive impact that ICPM has had on their collaboration together and with the families they serve\, as well as learn practical strategies for increasing the use of ICPM across the SOC.  \nThe ICPM is the practice model that aligns language\, values\, principles and behaviors across the systems\, and can reinforce and align discipline specific practices and system integration.
