SUMMARY:The Path to Racial Equity: Addressing Disparities for Transition Age Youth in Child Welfare
DESCRIPTION:Join Alliance for Children’s Rights for a virtual policy summit focused on actionable solutions to address racial disparities and disproportionalities for transition age youth in child welfare. The Alliance for Children’s Rights report\, Supporting Their Journey: The Path to Racial Equity in Child Welfare for Transition Age Youth\, and accompanying policy and practice recommendations\, builds on our first report\, The Path to Racial Equity in Child Welfare: Valuing Family and Community\, published in 2021\, addressing racial disparities and disproportionalities in the child welfare system. This second phase of our Whole Families/Whole Communities campaign examines the racial disparities and inequities transition age youth\, those aged 16-24\, experience while in and exiting the foster care system and the ways in which those inequities are driven by systemic factors\, such as implicit bias\, socioeconomic inequality\, and inadequate access to culturally responsive services. \nThis virtual policy summit will focus on targeted policy and practice reforms aimed at combatting the impacts of systemic disparities and disproportionalities\, fostering stability\, and expanding economic and educational opportunities to improve the health and wellbeing of transition age youth. We will be joined by a lived experience expert sharing their insights on barriers and challenges transition age youth face. Participants will engage in breakout sessions to explore the supports and interventions needed for youth in foster care to thrive. \nREGISTER HERE
